Mid-size XA-aerobatics

85-inch Extra 300EXP

With an 85 inch span, this XA model is certainly a looker. Usually powered by 50-60cc gasser, or an electric motor on 12S, this class of model is size-wise, about the limit of what can be transported without a trailer. Is one of these right for you?

Introduction

These articles are designed to a) clue you into what you're about to bite off if you get one of these models, and b) show you what we have in the way of servos to customize the build to your needs. Along the way, we'll share a few thoughts, which you may find valuable.

So the quid pro quo is you'll see some of what Extreme Flight doesn't inform you of before you buy, and in turn, we get to yak about our wares . . . win-win. Way it works is we divide our recommended equipment list into three categories - Sport, IMAC, and XA.

Why 3-lists? Simple, it's because we don't know you from Adam. By this meaning how you fly, how you'll power the model, your hopes and dreams for it, or anything to do with your budget.

Our thinking is without waiting to speak with us (maybe you're reading this whilst we're closed), you maybe can figure out for yourself what the likely best setup is for you and your budget based on how you fly. Saying you're the critical part of the equation, not us - or - Extreme Flight!

Anyway, beyond offering servos suitable for sport, IMAC, and XA-type maneuvers, we also touch on accessories. Things like it being wise to use twisted extensions if it's equipped with a spark-ignition engine.

What's this got to do with servos? Very little except it's through extensions that stray RFI from a failing ignition module may affect the receiver and result in a crash. Want to buy twisted leads elsewhere? Honestly? We don't really care because we eat from selling servos, not the knick-knacks you need to complete your build.

Saying what makes this guide valuable is we try 'not' to make assumptions about your state of knowledge, your capabilities, or your budget. Anyway, we also touch on suitable batteries, and even what length servo arms are best. The idea is maybe you gain insight you don't typically see in a Facebook post, or forum thread where it's usually fanboys putting forth their views.

But at heart, we offer this white paper from the point of view if isn't valuable, then why should you expose yourself to our yak-yak about our stuff ever again? All deals have to be fair and thus, we try to earn our keep in exchange for your time.

Bottom line? These caseSTUDY articles are a free resource for before you build.

Wrap up

So here's where we wrap up this white paper. We've guided you equipment installations including a great sport setup that's super economical. Plus two other setups, one optimized for IMAC maneuvers, the other for the über serious XA-pilots amongst you. we touched on background regarding the full scale aircraft, and we explored what and why regarding the servos, arms, batteries, and switches.

So that's it. Any errors or omissions are on me.
